Saturday is FAFSA Day in North Carolina

Did you know that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines more than just your eligibility for federal financial aid? In fact, private and public universities also use the data to determine aid. That’s why this document is key for students who will be attending college in the upcoming year!

Fortunately, there is in-person help available to students and their parents this coming Saturday during FAFSA Day. On FAFSA Day, financial aid administrators and financial aid specialists will be available at locations throughout North Carolina to answer questions about the form and help with its completion.

College aid changes take effect; applicants can get help on FAFSA

“Amy Denton, a regional representative for the College Foundation of North Carolina, said the changes mean students can complete and submit their FAFSA earlier and avoid having to go back and make corrections after tax season.

‘I can see this meaning there will be less corrections, less opportunities for verifications families have to go through because the taxes are already sitting with the IRS, she said. They can link to the IRS and import it into the FAFSA.’”

Students can apply for financial aid earlier this year

“For in-person help filing the FAFSA, students and families are invited to attend FAFSA Day, Oct. 29, at UNC Asheville.

The location is one of 50 sites across the state where students can get help. To find other locations in Western North Carolina, visit CFNC.org/FAFSAday or call 866-866-CFNC. Pre-registration is encouraged for FAFSA Day.”
