Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Most financial assistance programs require the student and family to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for aid. The FAFSA determines a student’s need for help using a standard formula that looks at what the student and family can reasonably contribute to college costs. The college to which the student is applying then subtracts the expected family contribution from their cost of attendance to determine the student’s eligibility for need-based funds at their school.
